I Was Burning Bright.. or at least trying to...

Wow. Like seriously wow. Years of not analysing poetry really takes a toll on the mind when you eventually get down to it. Worser yet, when the first attempt had to be Blake's The Tiger.

Gah. What pain! What anguish!

Enough about me, it was a Sec 1 assignment!! Which nutter gives a Blake piece for Sec 1's to analyse!? Lunatic.

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Poseidon Revelation

I think I know why the movie Poseidon was directed the way it was.

With fewer people in the later scenes, the fewer the lines the scriptwriters have to create. Plus, with fewer characters there will be fewer costumes too. Basically what we're looking at is lower costs.

The movie started off with a ship-load of people, then a maverick decided to find a way to escape on his own and ended up having a bunch of other people tagging along with him. 2 died along the way, but at the end, you are left with what, 6 /7 people? So from hundreds down to 6... (everyone else died on the ship as it sunk)

Pretty genius, I have to admit.

I Literally Woke Up On the Wrong Side of the Bed

I had a totally bad start to the day.

Woke up feeling like I needed an extra week of sleep.

Couldn't decide what to wear; kept on changing my mind till I left my house later than I should have.

Stepped on my earpiece and heard that awful crunching sound.

Dropped my phone (not in the pouch) right smack onto the marble.

Missed my bus.

All this before 7am.

A Bromance!?

That's what the tabloids are calling it. I prefer to call it a tragedy of immense proportions.

Dave
Grohl and Paul McCartney collaborated at the Grammy's; where Grohl drummed for Paul, who sang,"I Saw Her Standing There". Obviously I have many gripes with the collaboration. Let me clear the air first, by saying that I love the both of them. They are legendary and are geniuses at what they do. Thus, I had very high expectations for the collaboration.

Individually, they are
magnificent, but together they were appalling! I felt that it was an odd clash and that their styles were too different to compliment one another. Of all the Beatles songs, why that song!? Why not something later or even remotely impact-ful. It felt like a revival item; like some homage was being paid to the band. Bad song choice. McCartney was flawless, though, even managing to do the "ooooh" bits.

Dave, oh Dave, I know Paul's one of your heroes, and you looked like a school kid (grinning and all) whilst playing but really... the song wasn't rock enough for you and you were definitely limited by it and you couldn't fully show off how freaking awesome you are. Plus, you looked real stiff and awkward. Performance pressure? Your timing was impeccable, though.

Tragic, really. Such a promising collaboration and that was the best that they could come up with?!

I can't believe I stayed up just to watch that. I am terribly disappointed.

A Bomb or The Bomb?

If it weren't for my brother, I wouldn't have known that Milton's Paradise Lost is in production as of this moment. They started some time in '05 and hope for it to be ready in '10.

Who is so bold as to take this on? Scott Derrickson, director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Hellraiser: Inferno. So he does have some experience of Satanic subject matter but I doubt that that will be enough.

I'm assuming the movie will be mainly in CGI and that it will undoubtedly be awesome to watch the epic battles. Honestly, I have no clue how Milton's imagery can be translated visually especially since about everything is described in simile with most of it juxtaposing itself. That and the fact that throughout most of the book, Adam and Eve are nude right up till before the end. I'm pretty sure the censors will have much to gripe about that with Legendary Pictures who'd be developing the movie, since he plans to make it a big Hollywood blockbuster hit.

I realise I'm completely thrashing the film even before trailers / spoilers / tv spots have been released but if you've read the book, you'll understand where I'm coming from. The transition from print to screen has not been successful for the many who dared to take on the challenge. The written word is meant to titilate and to set your imagination free whereas it becomes limited once it's been directed through the eyes of an individual and the audience is forced to interpret how he interprets those words.

Plus Milton was slightly off-tangent, theologically and it will be interesting to see how the script writers work on that without offending / disappointing any religious groups or even Milton fans. Things like who's going to play Satan, God, Adam & Eve, the fallen Angels etc? Will the dialogue be in Modern English? Will it based or loosely based (like Troy - come on, Archilles was supossed to be DEAD and he appeared to fight!?!?) on the book or will it be an adaptation / snippets of some of the books?

I can't wait!!

Dear You

Stop. Really just STOP.

Junior is so wrong for you... and Senior is a worser choice.

But we all have to make mistakes because there are certain things in life where you know it's a mistake but you don't
really know that it's a mistake because the only way to really know that it's a mistake is to make the mistake first and then look back and say "Hmmm, yea, that was a mistake."

What I'm trying to say is, the bigger mistake would be to not make the mistake, because then you'd spend the rest of your whole life not knowing if that something was a mistake or not.

So maybe I won't stop after all.

Reality Check

Some things are beyond my control and I must learn to accept that fact. I cannot solve everything or even fix everything. Some things are meant to happen in ways I don't expect them to and I'll just have to let them run their course.

On the other hand, there are other things which I can foresee and have absolute control over. These are the things which I know I can persuade to work in my favour. These are the things which I can manage and handle to the best of my abilities.

Then tell me why do I fret over things I cannot control and as for the things that I can, I let them go awry?

I'm turning 24 and I still have much to learn.
