I'm Having The Worst Week Ever

It started out with a wisdom tooth extraction. The tooth is perfectly fine; it's the gums that got infected. My toothbrush can't reach that far back so some remnants of food got stuck there and basically infected my gums. It swelled up and it hurt to close my jaw. So for the March holidays, I was living off a diet of Campbell soup, noodles and Oats porridge. Needless to say, I didn't have much strength. I had to cancel lunch / dinner appointments but that wasn't the tragic part of my ordeal.

Because my tooth was well set and pretty large, my dentist had a tough time extracting it. He tugged, pulled and twisted and I was tearing not from the pain but from the pressure of the force that he was using to remove the tooth. I was anesthetized and could not feel pain but I could feel pressure. Once the tooth was out, I felt dizzy from all that fuss and I was bleeding quite a fair bit. An hour later, I was still bleeding.

An hour after that, the numbness wore off and I could feel everything and the pain was unbearable. I felt like I was being punished for a crime and had to suffer for it. It was like being hit repeatedly in the head with a bat because the whole of the right side of my face was throbbing with pain. Adding on to that, I was having a migraine. One that I had never had before.

What made it worse was that my tonsils were inflamed at the point of the tooth extraction. So now the right side of my throat swelled up and I had trouble not only drinking fluids, but swallowing my own saliva as well. It was fucked up indeed. I tried sleeping but I could not drown the pain - the painkillers were not working and I couldn't mix the pills with Panadol. I tried sleeping on the swollen jaw to lessen the pain and eventually I fell asleep somewhere past midnight.

I woke up the next morning not feeling any better. I felt worse actually because I was displaying all the symptoms of a flu but without the fever. My joints were aching and I felt weak. I spent the whole day in bed and consumed only fluids because my throat was still swollen. I could not tell if it was because of the gums or the tonsils because I could hardly open up my mouth wide enough to take a look.

The next day I still felt like crap. My appetite seemed to have shrunk as well that day. I was nauseous and light-headed. I was weak and my throat hurt from the infected tonsils. I went to the doctor and she jabbed my butt with antibiotics. That was for the swelling in my throat to reduce in size. She also gave me a bunch of other pills: detox, more antibotiocs and probiotics. I went home, ate and took my pills. Then I started to throw up. That experience was terrible, terrible indeed. I concluded that I could be allergic to the detox pills as I threw up after I took them again later that night.

The next day, the swelling in my throat was visibly smaller and I could consume more but I still had not gotten my appetite back. I took my pills and threw up. Hmmm... maybe not the detox pills after all. Perhaps it's stomach virus. That would explain the flu symptoms and the throwing up. Yes, I do like to self-diagnose myself. I have been unwell many times and I can tell just from my symptoms what I am going to get days before. I didn't go to the doctor because I had gained my strength and if it is just stomach flu, it will be flushed out eventually. I had weekend to recuperate too. The pain in my jaw was lessening too and the swelling was going down but I still had difficulty opening my mouth to chomp on my meals.

The next day I threw up after taking just my antibiotics and I was back to feeling like crap. I was perspiring and felt very light-headed. Something was not right. I went to the doctors and she jabbed me in the butt again and concluded that the antibiotics she prescribed was probably too strong for me. Well, she gave me 5 tablets and each cost $15. So yea, it was pretty strong stuff.

By Monday (today) I was feeling much better but I was still nauseous. At least I could eat half a packet of rice and keep it down. I am still pretty weak and have the urge to throw up but I can tell that I'm recovering.

Well, that was 5 days of hell for me. Gum infection lead to tonsillitis and stomach virus. At the same time. That's the most unwell that I have ever been. I really hope I don't have a repeat experience.
